Anyone Want a Third Book?
May 1st, 2012

I know, I know, the second book just came out. But for those of you who’ve read it (and wow, you’re quick if you have), you know that there might be a tiny little cliffhanger-ish type end to TWICE UPON A TIME. So, you’re asking (and I can hear you asking), what about the third book?

Well, I can’t say much about it yet, other than all the hints I’ve left in the comments. But I CAN say what the title is going to be:

ONCE UPON THE END

And that it’ll be out early next Summer. When I get an exact date (and a cover!), I’ll let you all know. And hopefully I’ll have time to post some stories that happen between books in the meantime, just to tide you over.

  3. we got twice upon a time from the library and our dog chewed up the corner and it is still readable but we have to pay it but the awesome news is that we get to keep it! it is bad news that he chewed it but….. we get to keep it!! i am almost hoping he chews up half upon a time so we can keep that to. heheheheheeheh

  4. OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG. just finished the book, literally 2 seconds ago ! i am fangirling right now.
    i can’t believe that the next book is the end. ( whyyyyyyyyyy??!!)
    sad thing: im unpset that ” Jay ” ( i apologize in advance for my bad May and Jack couple name )may not happen. Can Jack please change his own destiny? He’s Jack, he MUST be able to! especially with help from Lian.. otherwise,,, can’t wait for the next book!!! Make sure it lives up to its amazing potential.

    I’m not sure there’s any better couple name than “Jay” for Jack and May (Mack? No.) so nice job. Of course, there’s always “Millup”…

    Can Jack change his destiny? I don’t know … is he even going to try? We’ll see! And I’ll do my best to make sure the third one lives up to the first two! Glad you liked them!

  8. I devoured the second book already. =/ I just ordered it last week and could not put it down, once I began reading it. In literally two sittings, I finished it. Yeah, it was that good. I love the wit and adventure in both books. I so hope the series will be made into movies one day. That would rock! James Riley=talent (and stuff).

  10. I LOVED Twice Upon a Time and am DYING for the next one! I’m totally in love with these books! I cried at the end when Jack … (not gonna spoil it!) and was totally shocked when he found out that … (not spoiling.) was his sister! I about cried when he let go of Meghan! ( I will give you that ). Phillip has ALWAYS bothered me some, but I’m still happy for him when he meets Penelope! He needs to accept they were meant for each other. I cried tears of Joy when I found out May was … (still won’t spoil.) It was a PERFECT twist! I felt so BAD for Jack though. That would seriously blow, finding out that the person you loved was meant for someone else? Even the Wicked Queen’s magic mirror couldn’t have predicted THAT twist. I’m hoping he will find a way to change his destiny, and maybe make some good out of his deadly fate to become an Eye (Yeah, I can see that is GOING to happen. He can’t stop that…) I can’t WAIT for the next book. And one question, whats the story behind Bluebeard? I have read like a dozen fairy tale books and they all have Bluebeard and the same creepy story behind him. I never knew the tale of Bluebeard and would LOVE to find out. Can’t WAIT!!!

    Thanks for all the kind words … your spoiler warnings made me laugh.

    So Bluebeard’s not the most well-known fairy tale, but he’s making his way out there. He actually wasn’t a pirate, but his name sounds so much like Blackbeard that a lot of people get them confused … or purposefully mix the two up, and add in a little Captain Hook. Not sure who’d do THAT.

  20. I loved this last book!! I can’t believe jack has a sister! I hope everything goes good for them. If Jack and May don’t end up together I will be so sad. Jay is just so catchy.   24. I just finished the book and I had to know if there was going to be anOther one. I knew Lian was jacks sister when he first saw the memory of him getting pushed down the hill! Great books!   28. omg god hi jame my name crystal i i just read both book’s and im DYING!!!! for book#3 to come out but what i don’t really get is umm… if this one called once upon the end does that mean this is the last one because if i read worng you said their will be four book’s so won’t book #4 be called that will caz it the last one? any way i love reading them hope the …..next two would be AWESOME really do:0 by the way im like 19 still loving to read any book out their that cought my eyes. :) thank you for your time

    I’ve started the series after picking the second book up in the store because of the awesome cover art :) (don’t worry, I switched and got the first one first so I could start at the beginning). They are awesome-fun books to read :) I love the fairytale characters popping up all over the place, plus the non-too subtle Disney references ;) Now im just wondering when you’re going to bring the Beauty and the Beast tale into play…the whole Eye/Jack’s father/hero plot has got me hooked and I can’t wait to find out more about what’s what and who’s who! So yes, a third book would be lovely. I’ve been kinda spoiled, since the second book was already out when I started the series :) thank you for these wonderful characters!

I originally had the thought that there’d be four books, but I realized that instead of being mean and leaving book 3 off on a HUGE cliffhanger, I’d rearrange things a bit and combine the two. I think it works much better this way, and this way you don’t have to wait two years! So yes, ONCE UPON THE END is, y’know, the end. Hope you like it too, and thanks!

    See? It’s all about tricking people into reading the book through the fun covers. As for who’s who and if Beauty and the Beast show up … you’ll find out in about a year. And don’t worry about being spoiled… I got to read all three books in my head from the very start. Though I wouldn’t tell myself where Beauty and the Beast were either, until I found out for myself.   52. I really hope that Jack and May get together. I was spoiled with reading the series later than it came out as well, but I am now chewing at the bit for the third one. I also hope that May’s prince is a total PRAT and she dumps him for Jack. That or Jack is the prince. Oops, spoiler alert. Too late.   53. Thanks Catherine! Hope you like the third one when it comes out! As for tips, not enough people use the word “prat,” so I’d keep using that. Other than that, my best advice is to just write as much as you can, and never worry if it’s good or bad. Just get something down, and you can always change it later. And write something that you’d enjoy reading, so it always feels fun to you! Good luck!

    I really LOVED your books, but I really got confused at the ending of Twice upon a time (although I loved it). I really can not wait for once upon the end. But will you put an epilouge on it so we can see an extension on the book. And last night when I finished Twice upon a time after i fell asleep i had a dream that i had played may in a movie of the series. But if you decide to make a movie email me ASAP so i know to audition. And if you do a tour make sure to come to Miami Lakes, FL.

  60. Oh and btw I couldn’t believe ….. was …… sister. Total shocker although once I read it I totally got it. Now I can see the Charmed One wasn’t the only betrayer of the Wicked Queen. And now that Jack ” betrayed ” May I can’t believe Phillip is supposed to die (although I always preferred Jack)

    There will definitely be an epilogue (even if it’s not called that) with two of the three main characters at the end of the last book. And by main characters, I mean either Jack, May, Phillip, or the Wicked Queen. So at least two of those survive! Hope you like it!

  76. If you go on tour, stop in mcallen texas for a second stop in texas since, you know texas is sooooooooooo big! Mcallen is at the very bottom point in texas. Maybe stop in san antonio instead because it takes a lot longer to get to mcallen.

    San Antonio it is! I’ve only been to Texas once, but it is huge, you’re so right, so maybe a few different stops makes sense! There aren’t any plans for a tour right now, but if I do one, I’ll do my best to get all these different places!

  78. Hi! I love these books! I saw the cover for Once Upon An End and it was AMAZING! It confused me though,like was tyne queen giving Kack an apple like in Sniw White? Anyway I can NOT wait until May 7,2013 It’s like years away to me!! These are my favorite books(though I say that a lot about just about every book,these are defenitly going to be my favorites for a MILLION years!) Will you please answer some questions?

    1-Is the”story where May comes from” still going to happen?
    2- Why is Merriweather like that? I mean she didn’t have to laugh in his face! Because of her Jack has gone to the DARK side!!And by the other comments lots of other people say so!
    3-Why does everyone hate Philip,wait…yeah he is a bit TOO perfect.
    4-Can you explain the cover?Is that an apple the queen is holding out to Jack or what?
    5- Why didn’t I see the cliffhanger scene it was not in my book!!!

  81. Well its obvious even fairies can make mistakes. Especially when they think they know it all, I noticed merriweather didnt take the hint at where the timeline in her vision actually altered this should be an interesting end. I loved the book cant wait for the last one.

  82. i gotta say these books are awesome,(and im 28 yrs old.)james i love your books they are so funny. cant wait to read the next one! i picked the 1st one up when by chance i saw it on the display shelf in the childrens section of my library and got it thinking if it was cute i would read it to my nephew who is six. once i started it i couldnt put it down and i snatched up the 2nd one as soon as i could get back to my library. i know its not meant for adults but it is very entertaining and i have recommended it to my friends.

(the sad part is, that’s what always happens to me:() though I have got to say that Jack is way to awesome for May. She doesn’t deserve him!   86. I loved book 2 I read it once and skimmed it twice [he he he]. Lian is awesome and I hope jack becomes a good eye. Penelope is awesome she and Philip do not fit tougher at all so you could do a little May vs Penelope even though Phillip sucks.

  87. Hi Anonymous Alien Life Form (or AALF)! I knew a guy with only one good eye once, and his name wasn’t Jack. Weirdly, it WAS Phillip. Penelope just woke up when you saw her in TWICE UPON A TIME, so don’t worry, she’s a little different once she’s completely awake. Sort of.
